Brand New Computer Smell

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Can you smell this? It is the smell of a brand new computer!

Or maybe not...My computer recently got infected. I scanned with Avast, Malware Bytes, Ad-Aware (twice) and Spybot. While the two latter ones did find files that had to be removed, it was not sufficient to put my computer back on the right track. Browsers kept crashing or consuming enormous amounts of RAM, Google search results were redirected to odd places, AVG disappeared, etc.

As I was already planning to do so anyway, I made a back up of everything and formatted my computer. I just finished re-installing Windows XP and some other stuff.

That's one of the reasons I didn't blog in the past few days. The other one is that I had forgotten my password and reset it. I wrote down my new password on a sheet which has mysteriously disappeared since then. I suspect my mom put it somewhere. I curse at the thought it could be in the recycling bin, as it also had some information from when I installed Portal and Steam. Argh.

And now my cat won't shut up because she saw discs reflecting lights on the ceiling and has been mewing practically non-stop for almost 2 hours. Shut up, bitch.

Cats’ Sense of Smell and the Facebook News Feed

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

No, I won't be linking these two topics. I'll just talk about one, then the other. ;)

I gave my cat toy mice to play with. She absolutely loves them. They do not contain cat nip. They are made of plain plastic and fake fur. She can smell them. If I put one in my pocket, she can smell it if she gets close enough.

I was quite surprised by the furry one (the living one, not the mice) this morning. Yesterday, I had put one of her toy mice in my pajama pants just for the pleasure of watching her smell it and retrieve it (I wasn't wearing the pants). This morning, the mouse wasn't in my pocket anymore. She jumped onto my bed and started mewing. Then her head was near the famous pocket. She smelled it. She knew there was a mouse in there, or there had been one recently. I never thought she could smell those mice even after they had been gone for hours!

On a completely different note: the Facebook news feed. If you use Facebook, you've surely noticed it. As far as I can tell, it basically doesn't filter anything, unless you tell it to. It shows you everything that appeared on friends' walls. I didn't mind, until the weekend came, and a particular friend found himself with lots of times on his hand. Lots of time which, naturally, he devoted to one of those applications I really don't give a shit about.

damn news feed (hosted at imageshack.us)

And this is only a part of all those damn things. And if I click the X that appears on hover, it doesn't just delete the story, it blocks this person from my news feed. Then again, it's not like I care about him enough to be sorry if he doesn't show up on there.

Tired From Shopping

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Shopping in itself wouldn't really make me tired per say. Annoyed, probably. Wanting to leave, certainly. But not simply tired. The thing is, I got only about 4 or 5 hours of sleep last night, whereas I usually get 11 or 12.

Anyway, I bought two shirts. One was $12 (on sale) and one was $25. I really gave in to the latter. Amanda would surely spank me.

But shopping for clothes is utterly boring, so I compensated by buying a set of three stylus...es for my DS, a book of poetry by Emile Nelligan, Portal (the awesome video game) and a memory card for the GameCube. It isn't actually so bad, considering that I haven't shopped for anything but food in months, and will probably not be buying anything else for a while (except my rent here, but that is expected).

This all means that my cat got to play with bags when I arrived. She always inspects whatever new things I bring. She smelled all of my things, hid in one of the bags for a couple of minutes, then left. Inspection done, new objects approved.

I Have Corrupted the Furry One

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

I have corrupted my cat. She just jumped onto the desk...and drank some of my Pepsi! I can't believe it, just a few weeks ago she would run away from the glass as soon as she would smell it.
